Day 7
Orientation walk and The David
Florence
We hit the streets of Florence on a busy Saturday afternoon to soak in the culture and beauty of this incredible city.
The Birthplace
of the
Renaissance

During a Saturday afternoon stroll through the streets of Florence we get acquainted with some of the main landmarks like the tower at the Palazzo Vecchio.

This is the street right outside our hotel, the Torre Guelfa. Wisely, our bus driver did not try to traverse these narrow streets in our neighborhood.

Michelangelo called these gilded bronze doors of the Baptistery of San Giovanni the "Gates of Paradise"
The David
It is magnificent, especially if you read "The Agony and the Ecstasy." We especially notice the fine details of his hand ,twisted torso and weight placement on his legs. We visited towards the end of the day and stayed until closing when most of the visitors had left. To see it with the changing light and only a handful of people is something we will remember forever.
